Many millions of people gained access to news and a single voice during difficult times in their home country when they had no other channels to turn to. Several of these channels started in Stavanger.
So far, 20 Nobel Peace Prize winners have had their footprints cast in the ground in downtown Stavanger for their outstanding work toward a better life. The fight for human rights and freedom of speech is far from over. The work continues, and so does the laying of new footprints in Stavanger’s city center.
Speakers Corner and Walk of pain is a project initiated by Rune Hersvik and Mats Lande, Frode Isachsen, and Amnesty International Norge in collaboration with the Municipality of Stavanger.
